My parents, John and Rita Lauricella founders of Capello Salons & Day Spas would like to extend their appreciation for viewing the Eco Capello Salon website. Allow me to give you a brief history of our association with giving back to our earth. The Capello Salons & Day Spas have been a success since 1970. As the family spokesperson for Capello Salon's most recent in depth pursuit of eco –friendly behavior, I immersed myself in the study of eco conservation for six months in Central America, mainly in Costa Rica. While serving as the director of Social Media for a non-profit, environmental organization, I brought back some environmental insights from the Central Valley of Costa Rica all the way to Buffalo, New York.
In my research and understanding of how environmentally aware Costa Rica is in comparison with industrial nations like The United States, it becomes obvious why the economy of Costa Rica flourishes from people from all over the globe that come to visit its biodiverse territory. With over 25% of Costa Rica's land protected as national parks, this small country has big opportunities in the fields of environmental research.
From the humid and tropical rainforests of Manuel Antonio, to the temperate cloud forests of Arenal, to the micro-climates that range drastically with in a mile inside the Central Valley, I was able to witness nature at its best and appreciate its diversity. With all the fresh fruits and vegetables and the fertile lands that keep the economy of Costa Rica alive, I set out in search of ways of protecting the environment, the way the people of Costa Rica protect their lands, in hopes of bringing my knowledge back to Capellos.
The first idea that came to me was to see if I could find an eco-friendly product line that does not have all the chemicals that current haircare products have. Searching high and low, through mountains and rainforests, and some of the worlds most beautiful beaches, I was able to find a world that I never knew existed. Filled with coffee, organic foods, a culture that is described as "Pura Vida" meaning pure life, and wildlife that I have only seen on National Geographic, I was unable to find an eco-friendly haircare product line before Capellos did. But, I brought home some culture and environmental methods that put a little tweak in the Capello atmosphere. I mean, hey... Capellos has an eco-friendly website now and there is a lot to be explored.
